About

Welcome to the Pioneers website! My name is Owen Majit, and I created Pioneers based on my lifelong fascination with pi and my desire to spark the same curiosity about math concepts in other children. My hope is that it can also play a small role in making up for some of the lost learning that occurred during the pandemic.

I run pioneers primarily in a workshop setting, offering one-hour sessions for children ages 7-12. It goes through all the fundamentals in order to educate children on the concept of pi. It begins with a basic understanding of all the key terms and concepts (circle, radius, diameter), using entertaining visuals and collaborative, hands-on activities. It then builds on these basics and expands into area and circumference, again using simplified visuals and interactive activities.

The final part of the workshop demonstrates how we use pi in everyday life and how important it is to the world. Pioneers can also be offered as a half-day camp, where we expand even further into interesting math concepts.

Each workshop uses the Pioneers workbook I authored and published on Amazon called, Pioneers: Exploring the Infinite Wonders of Pi, and each child receives a workbook to bring home! By sparking curiosity and courage through fun and interactive activities, my goal for Pioneers is to help students gain confidence in STEM related topics and foster a love for math in general. More broadly, I want to demonstrate to each child the art of discipline, goal-setting, endurance, and fortitude, and instill in them the idea that dedicating time to something each day - be it math, a sport, an instrument, or wherever their passion lies - can lead to great achievements over time!
